Competitive and Performance Teams
Protege (formerly Centre Squad)
Centre for Dance’s Protege is an exciting opportunity for boys and girls ages 4-12 years old. The team will dance several techniques including jazz, pom, musical theatre, hip hop and more! Pretege performs at local parades and festivals, entertaining the metroplex with their fun and up-beat choreography. This team is open to ALL dancers who are interested in performing and having a GREAT time. Past performances include City of Richardson Christmas Parade, Richardson High School Main Street Market, Kids 4 Kids United We Dance, City of Richardson Santa’s Village, Allen Americans halftime performance, North Texas Kids Family Expo, Taste of Downtown Plano, Six Flags Over Texas, Men’s Olympic Volleyball Tournament, North Park Mall, Willow Bend Mall events, and more! Protege is directed by Geena Ngaaje.

Competitive Hip Hop Crew
Our Competitive Hip Hop Team, THE OFFICIALS, is a group of dancers who are passionate about hip hop. Their love for one of the most popular forms of dance raises this high energy group to the top of their game. The Competitive Hip Hop team not only competes, but also attends conventions and performs at a variety of events in the area. Conventions have included Monsters of Hip Hop, Nuvo, Pulse, and Adrenaline. Competitions include Showbiz, PrimeTime, Dance Showcase USA, Celebrity, Odyssey, and more.
Competitive Hip Hop is under the direction of Jenny Durbin Smith. Audition is required.
Competitive Drill Team
Centre for Dance’s Competitive Drill Team is a group of dancers 8-18 years old who strives to perfect their technique in Drill or whose goal is to be on a Drill Team, Pom Squad, or Dance team at the high school and college levels. Dance styles include kick, jazz, pom, hip hop and contemporary. The Competitive Drill team not only competes, but also attends conventions and performs at a variety of events in the area including the Plano Balloon Fest, Richardson Santa’s Village, Taste of Downtown Plano, Willow Bend and North Park Malls, City of Richardson’s Christmas Parade, and more! Convention and camps include Marching Auxiliaries, American Dance & Drill Team, Jump, Nuvo, and Adrenaline. Competitions include Marching Auxiliaries, American Dance & Drill Team, Showtime and Dance Showcase USA. Awards include: 1st Place Nationals group dances, Best in Class/1st Place Nationals duet & trio, Judges Award for high scoring team dance, and all Division I ratings!
Drill Company is under the direction of Heather Barajas. Audition or an invitation required.
Performing Company
Performing Company at Centre for Dance is an amazing opportunity for dancers 5-18 years old to learn poise and the self-discipline necessary to become the artist they dream of being. We are setting a standard of excellence with our commitment to developing solid technical dancers with amazing performance abilities. Company members train hard to improve individual skills and learn the lessons of teamwork.
Ladies and gentlemen on this team train and compete in all genres including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary and more! Dancers will be exposed to many types of dance styles and have the ability to train with some of the top choreographers. Performing Company is a great opportunity for students to train competitively, learn the meaning of teamwork, attend conventions, and build a solid foundation for their future as dancers! This year’s Company performed at the City of Richardson’s Christmas Parade and Santa’s Village, North Texas Kids & Family Expo, Six Flags over Texas, and Taste of Downtown Plano.
Performing Company attends several regional competitions and has won multiple awards including; 8 duets/trios place in the Top 10, 4 group dances placed in the Top 5, and all 4 soloists placed in the Top 10 overall! They also received a few special Judges awards, and National invitations, and scholarships. Showbiz awards include Diamond First, Platinum First, multiple 2nd Place Overall, 3rd High Point Overall, Lyrical Icon winner, and 2012 Miss Showbiz winner!
Performing Company is under the direction of Caitlyn McGowan and requires an audition or an invitation from the company director.
